Recycling Rare Earth Metal from Electronic Products

"If the company recycling mobile phones and computer hard drives and other electronic products, Germany can significantly reduce the imports of rare earth", Held in Berlin during the special committees of the United Nations International Resources, German Environment Minister Peter Mel Ott said: "the efficiency of Germany's resource using objectives for 2020 to be double, compared to the level of 1994."

In 2010, China, the world's largest rare earth suppliers announced restrictions on rare earth production. Europe, the United States and Japan are beginning to make efforts for rare earth procurement diversifying, especially for Germany.

Recently, the demand of neodymium magnets goes down steady on Chinese rare earth for the global rare earth magnet market. This is due to the recovery of rare earth metals and alternative products on behalf of permanent magnet, such as Toyota and Hitachi. In November last year, the world's largest importer of rare earth in Japan signed an agreement with Indian, which is attribute to buy more rare earth magnets from India to diversify its procurement.

"We discarded almost 99% of used rare earth products." Ernst Ulrich, co-chair of the special committees of the United Nations International Resources.

Ott Mel hopes to develop related international cooperation in the field of resources, and called for the establishment of an appropriate framework, to hold regular talks on relevant issues.
